“Work is Hell.” If you’re like Binky you’re likely looking for a way to send your boss a lifetime subscription to “Lonely Tyrant”; furthermore if you’re like 77% of Americans, you hate your job.

I, on the other hand, do not wish to send my boss a copy of the magazine for abusive bosses whose employees hate their guts nor do I hate my job; however, like a vast majority of Americans I am unfulfilled by my current working condition. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to stop working because doing so would make me crazy! However, I don’t just want a job, I want my job. As it stands now as “Production Systems Engineer” - HR speak for product support - I’m bored.

I’ve had a chance to reflect further as to what I want in a position that will make me happy:

  • time freedom
  • a stimulating, both intellectually and physically, environment
  • engaging co-workers
  • an open door policy
  • challenging problems
  • some creative freedom
  • a reasonable commute

While the list is not extensive, or all encompassing, it does represent the core of what I am looking for. I’ve come to the realization that there is no good reason for me not to have a job that I want and look forward to daily. As such, I created a new section: ProfDev. Most people have heard of bizdev, Business Development, and know that entire departments and budgets are devoted to it. Though, Professional Development, has taken a back seat lately and I’m changing that for me starting now.

Just a warning, this page may change as I hone in on what I want and feel I deserve as a person who happens to be an employee.
