OSx86 - First Pass
[Image has been deleted from defang.net]
Most things work right out of the gate but there are still some issues:
- Quadro FX 3000 - only at 1280×1024x32 - even with the “Graphics Mode”
- AC’97 built-in audio (right channel) not functioning
- DVD+RW does not have write support
However, this represents quite a lot of progress since this build was never meant to run on this hardware and probably will not be certified with what I have in my rig. There is some really top notch information out there on the OSx86 “development” front:
- http://maxxuss.hotbox.ru/index.html | Maxxuss Homepage (Where did he go? Been out of the scene since 2006.04)
- OSx86 Project - Wiki
- OSx86 Project - Home
- a MAC OS X86 forum site
- macvidia - ’cause ATI is getting all the love right now
While I’ve only played with it a day so far my first impression is that OSx86 is not ready for (or meant to be) a GA release in the same way most Linux distros are or even as available as the Darwin project, http://developer.apple.com/darwin/. I hope do dig deeper in the coming weeks (I don’t plan to do same things as Maxxus and the other blokes who’ve “reverse engineered” Apples hard work).
